3. NEW NURSING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM in HOSPICE /

PALLIATIVE CARE

 

Grant MacEwan College has a new certificate program in Post Basic Nursing Practice. Shared courses and distinct specialization courses in Hospice Palliative Care or Gerontology are available through distance delivery (i.e. print-based materials and online activities/ discussions).

4. OPPORTUNITY FOR STANDARDIZED PATIENT TRAINING

FROM NBME

 

The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) is offering faculty development workshops on standardized patient (SP) test development in Philadelphia in 2007.

 

The course is intended for medical school faculty who are responsible for the clinical components of SP materials for teaching and assessment purposes. The faculty will receive the nine (9) cases that are developed in the workshop.

5. MedEdPORTAL NOW OFFERS TRACKING SERVICE

 

The AAMC has added several major enhancements to MedEdPORTAL, based on user suggestions. Authors whose work is published in MedEdPORTAL may now generate usage reports that provide a list of the users who have viewed their published resource.

 

This new feature is designed to provide authors with valuable information to help them illustrate the community-wide impact of their resource, which can be included in promotion and tenure documentation.

 

MedEdPORTAL is a free service provided by the AAMC that gives medical educators a venue in which to publish and locate high quality teaching resources that cover the continuum of medical education.

6. CDC PUBLISHES ANNUAL REPORT ON AMERICA's HEALTH

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have published the 30th annual report on the nation's health.

"Health, United States, 2006" includes trends and data on health status, healthcare use, healthcare resources, and healthcare expenditures. Much of the data includes information on racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in health. The report also includes a chartbook, "Trends in the Health of Americans," which assesses the current state of the nation's health and how it is changing.
