3. JOURNAL FOCUSES ON PEDIATRIC END-OF-LIFE CARE
http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/
The journal Pediatrics takes on the hard-to-take topic
of end-of-life care for children in its March issue,
with a study indicating that palliative care is sorely
lacking. Researchers sent questionnaires to nearly
100 parents who had recently lost children, asking
what could have been done to make this worst possible
time of their lives more tolerable.
Articles tackle euthanasia and disabilities, "futile"
care, and what parents want from doctors and hospitals.

4. NHPCO IS ASKING YOU TO WEAR A WHITE RIBBON IN MARCH
TO RAISE AWARENESS OF ADVANCE CARE PLANNING
The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization
is encouraging all Americans to wear a white ribbon
beginning in March to increase awareness of advance care
planning.
The advance care planning ribbon was created by NHPCO
to help people focus on the message: "It's About How
You LIVE." The LIVE message is at the heart of NHPCO's
Caring Connections public engagement campaign encouraging
people to "Learn, Implement, Voice, and Engage" in
improving care at the end of life. The white awareness
ribbon reflects the message of peace long associated
with the dove.

5. NEWS FROM AAMC
AAMC TASK FORCE WILL EXAMINE INDUSTRY INFLUENCE ON
MEDICAL EDUCATION
Responding to recent calls for academic medicine to take
the lead in eliminating conflicts of interest between
physicians and the pharmaceutical and medical device
industries, the AAMC will form a high-level task force
to provide guidance on managing such conflicts.
The task force will be asked to examine the interactions
that drug and device makers have with the educational
mission of medical schools and teaching hospitals, and
to recommend safeguards to ensure that industry marketing
efforts do not undermine the objectivity of educational
programs or otherwise bias the evidence-based decision
making of physicians. This effort has been endorsed by
members of the AAMC Executive Council.
