Author(s): Richard R. Love; Caroline C. Clark; Jeffrey A. Douglas
This submission, details a 2-hour, multi-exam assessment of essential cancer skills. Thirteen individual exams in 5 general areas (physical exam, cancer pain, smoking cessation, communication, and teamwork) are included.
This comprehensive submission includes background notes, appendices, and a section on managing a 100-minute comprehensive examination.
Reviewers commented, "Outstanding material geared toward learner assessment of key skills in cancer medicine." Further comments included, "This is one of the most useful pieces of educational material I have seen recently. The content is basic and to the point. It is appropriate for many levels and represents wonderful material for "final exams" in cancer/EOL education and clinical practice. The material represents interdisciplinary approaches to care in the cancer patient and has actually figured out a way to deal with such real issues as team conflict."
The overall submission was described as "wonderful, wonderful material. The format and layout of each exercise is clear and concise with all of the elements there to just pick up the book and get to teaching". Finally, "The inclusion of excellent psychometric outcome data, based on the prior use of this material, is novel for an educational package."
