Title: Pocket Guideline: End of Life Care for Hospitalized Adults
Author(s): Leslie J. Bricker MD; Virginia Paige MSN RN NP; Michelle Freeman MSN RN
This pocket guide, also available as a PDA resource, is described by the authors as "an interdisciplinary, holistic guideline to promote quality of care and quality of life for the adult patient and family/significant others at the end of life."
Included in the pocket guide are common issues and problems faced by physicians and the interdisciplinary team caring for patients at the end of life. The content is organized alphabetically and includes aims for improving care, self care strategies for the Health Care team, as well as issues such as anorexia, constipation, dehydration, etc.
Reviewers were enthusiastic about the guide book and wrote," I thought that the information was relevant and succinct and that people who use PDAs would load and use the content. An R1 {first year resident} said the information was valuable, especially with acronyms to help remember in the future." Another commented, "This is a terrific PDA based program. The designers worked within the limits of the PDA (small screen) and have created a truly wonderful resource. The mnemonics and short presentations are perfect for getting quick information, and as a starting place for deeper discussions while on rounds. I highly recommend this program!!!"
